Moving Talent – Young Masters in Motion is een internationaal talentontwikkelingsproject van International Holland Music Sessions (IHMS) in samenwerking met het Matangi Quartet.
Jonge klassieke topmusici worden uitgenodigd om hun artistieke stem te ontwikkelen, niet alleen als uitvoerders, maar als creatieve makers die de toekomst van de klassieke muziek vormgeven.
Waarom
Omdat klassieke muziek niet vooruitgaat door op safe te spelen.
Moving Talent bestaat voor musici die voelen dat uitmuntendheid alleen niet genoeg is. Voor kunstenaars die de canon beheersen, maar de drang voelen om deze te bevragen, uit te breiden en in de wereld van vandaag te plaatsen.
Dit fellowship geeft je tijd, ruimte en vertrouwen. Tijd om de diepte in te gaan. Ruimte om te experimenteren. Vertrouwen om een concertconcept te ontwikkelen dat echt van jou is.
Je werkt nauw samen met het Matangi Quartet en IHMS in een omgeving waar artistiek risico wordt aangemoedigd en vakmanschap niet onderhandelbaar is. Niet om te polijsten wat al bestaat, maar om iets te creëren dat alleen van jou had kunnen komen.
Moving Talent is geen competitie en geen masterclass. Het is een ontwikkelingstraject dat je behandelt als een kunstenaar in de dop, niet als een student die vinkjes zet.
Als je jouw eigen artistieke stem vorm wilt geven, het concertformat wilt uitdagen en wilt bijdragen aan de toekomst van de klassieke muziek, dan is dit waar het begint.

You work closely with the Matangi Quartet and IHMS in an environment where artistic risk is encouraged and craftsmanship is non negotiable. Not to polish what already exists, but to create something that could only come from you.
Moving Talent is not a competition and not a masterclass. It is a development journey that treats you as an artist in the making, not a student ticking boxes.

Artistieke Visie
De kern van Moving Talent draait om een duidelijke artistieke uitdaging.
Elke fellow selecteert één belangrijk werk uit de klassieke canon voor zijn of haar instrument (altviool, piano of cello) en strijkkwartet. Dit werk vormt de artistieke kern en het conceptuele anker van het concertprogramma. Fellows worden uitgedaagd om dit canonieke repertoire kritisch en creatief te herpositioneren binnen een hedendaagse context, zodat het relevant is en aanspreekt bij het publiek van nu.
Vertrekkend vanuit dit centrale werk ontwikkelt elke fellow een innovatief en persoonlijk concertconcept. Mogelijke benaderingen zijn onder andere nieuwe composities of arrangementen, samenwerkingen met andere kunstvormen zoals dans, beeldende kunst of theater, hedendaagse herinterpretaties van het repertoire, sterke narratieve of thematische kaders, of nieuwe manieren om klassieke muziek te presenteren en te contextualiseren.
Voorbeeld: een fellow kan Schuberts Strijkkwintet in C-majeur als centraal werk kiezen en een programma bouwen rond thema's als breekbaarheid, afscheid en tijd. Nieuwe composities, gesproken tekst of visuele elementen kunnen reageren op Schuberts muziek en deze in dialoog brengen met hedendaagse ervaringen van verlies of transitie, terwijl het kwintet zelf het structurele en emotionele middelpunt van de avond blijft.
Het resultaat is een origineel, avondvullend concertprogramma waarin een canoniek meesterwerk de dialoog aangaat met het heden, uitgevoerd samen met het Matangi Quartet.
At the heart of Moving Talent lies a clear artistic challenge.
Each fellow selects one major work from the classical canon for their instrument (viola, piano, or cello) and string quartet. This work forms the artistic core and conceptual anchor of the concert programme. Fellows are challenged to critically and creatively reposition this canonical repertoire within a contemporary context, ensuring its relevance and resonance for today’s audiences.
Starting from this central work, each fellow develops an innovative and personal concert concept. Possible approaches include new compositions or arrangements, collaborations with other art forms such as dance, visual art, or theatre, contemporary reinterpretations of the repertoire, strong narrative or thematic frameworks, or new ways of presenting and contextualising classical music.
Example: a fellow might choose Schubert’s String Quintet in C major as the central work and build a programme around themes of fragility, farewell, and time. New compositions, spoken text, or visual elements could respond to Schubert’s music, placing it in dialogue with contemporary experiences of loss or transition, while the quintet itself remains the structural and emotional centre of the evening.
The result is an original, evening-length concert programme in which a canonical masterpiece enters into dialogue with the present, performed together with the Matangi Quartet.`

The Fellowship
Moving Talent biedt een intensief artistiek traject dat zowel muzikale excellentie als conceptuele groei ondersteunt.
Deelnemers ontvangen individuele- en ensemblecoaching door het Matangi Quartet, nemen deel aan ontwikkelings- en repetitieperiodes in Bergen, en worden begeleid door middel van artistieke en conceptuele mentoring. Het programma biedt ook professionele documentatie, zichtbaarheid en meerdere optredens op grote podia.
Het fellowship sluit af met concerten in Bergen in de Ruinekerk, Alkmaar, Amsterdam en Den Haag met een festivalpresentatie in Amare.
Moving Talent offers an intensive artistic trajectory that supports both musical excellence and conceptual growth.
Participants receive individual and ensemble coaching by the Matangi Quartet, take part in development and rehearsal periods in Bergen, and are guided through artistic and conceptual mentoring. The programme also provides professional documentation, visibility and multiple performances on major stages.
The fellowship concludes with concerts in Bergen at the Ruinekerk, Alkmaar, Amsterdam and The Hague with a festival presentation at Amare.

De fellowship staat open voor uitzonderlijke jonge klassieke musici van over de hele wereld.
De instrumenten die in aanmerking komen zijn altviool, cello en piano. Sollicitanten zijn doorgaans tussen de 18 en 30 jaar oud.
We zijn op zoek naar musici die blijk geven van een uitstekende artistieke kwaliteit, nieuwsgierigheid en openheid voor innovatie tonen, graag een persoonlijke artistieke visie willen ontwikkelen en actief willen bijdragen aan de toekomst van de klassieke muziek.
Internationale aanmeldingen worden van harte verwelkomd.
The fellowship is open to exceptional young classical musicians from around the world.
Eligible instruments are viola, cello and piano. Applicants are typically between 18 and 30 years old.
We are looking for musicians who demonstrate outstanding artistic quality, show curiosity and openness to innovation, are eager to develop a personal artistic vision and want to actively contribute to the future of classical music.
International applications are warmly welcomed.
